My top 10 moisturizers for oily skin in India- Tried and tested!

Best moisturizers for oily and acne prone skin in India

You know you have an oily skin when you don’t need a highlighter because all you have to do is walk up a couple flights of stairs and you’re set!

But do you know in spite of that your oily skin still needs a moisturizer. *Gasp* Really, it does! I made the mistake of not using one for years and ended up with dehydrated skin (super oily yet dry- lacking water).

Now luckily you don’t have to pull together a search team to hunt for the ideal one for your shiny skin. No, you don’t even have to spend your hard-earned money on different ones to choose the right one. You know why? Because I already did that 🙂

In this post, I talk about some of the best moisturizers for oily and acne prone skin in India.

Lotus Herbals Alphamoist Alpha Hydroxyl Skin Renewal Moisturizer

Lotus Herbals Alphamoist Alpha Hydroxyl Skin Renewal Moisturizer review

This is the best affordable moisturizer for oily skin in India. Even if I leave aside the budget-friendly price tag, it’s still a basic and fuss-free moisturizer for oily skin. I started using it 4 years back and haven’t looked back since then. I like the pump-packaging which dispenses just the right amount of product. The moisturizer has a thin consistency which gets absorbed quickly without leaving any greasy feel behind.

I also love using it before applying concealer on my under-eye area as it preps that region very well. I take some quantity and let it sit for 3-4 minutes. After that, I gently tap and then, go over with a concealer. The finish looks amazing.

Price: Rs.265 for 80ml and Rs.325 for 70ml

Clean & Clear skin balancing oil free moisturizer

This is an amazing water based moisturizer for oily and acne prone skin in India as it contains salicylic acid too. It’s a teeny bit more light-weight in texture in comparison to the Lotus Herbals moisturizer. The only reason why I don’t use it anymore is because getting the product out of the hard cover packaging is a pain.

It’s an arm exercise in itself.

Price: Rs.80 for 80 ml

Innisfree green tea balancing lotion

This is another oil free moisturizer light enough for summer.

Innisfree green tea balancing lotion is ideal for people with oily skin as it leaves no shiny residue behind. It smells lovely and doesn’t clog my pores. It nourishes my skin without overdoing it.

Price: Rs.1200 for 150ml

Lotus Herbals UV screen matte gel SPF50 sunscreen

best moisturizer for oily skin with SPF

It’s the best moisturizer for oily skin with SPF.

Go for it if you like to minimize steps in your beauty routine because it works as a sunscreen as well as a moisturizer. It spreads easily onto the skin and once applied, it feels weightless. No kidding! It can be worn under makeup too since it’s not greasy at all.

This Lotus Herbals sunscreen has been a staple in my beauty routine for the last 4-5 years. The only time I have to follow it with another moisturizer in summer is when my super oily skin gets dehydrated.

Price: Rs.221 for 50g and Rs.308 for 100g

Neutrogena oil free facial moisturizer SPF 15

It comes in a pump dispenser bottle with a locking mechanism. When I was using it, I found that a little goes a long way and I don’t need much to cover my face. But I wouldn’t use it on very humid days. It’s best kept for days when your skin is still oily but the weather gets a bit cool.

Price: Rs.399 for 115ml

Oriflame oxygen boost oily skin day cream

best face cream for oily acne prone skin

Amongst the many creams I have tried, this has to be the best face cream for oily acne prone skin.

Oriflame oily skin face cream comes in a glass packaging. I love, love how it smells! The cream has a relatively stiff consistency. But it applies super smooth and glides on face with ease. It’s not at all greasy and leaves a silky feel behind. It’s very breathable and comfortable on the skin.

I only need a little quantity with it for my oily skin. I mix 2 drops of water with it and then, apply it. I do the same with other moisturizers too. The only issue I find with it is that it takes time to get absorbed in fully and therefore, it’s not something I reach for when I have to rush out of home in the mornings.

Price: Rs.599 for 50ml

Kaya overnight brightening nourisher

best night cream in India for oily skin

While I do believe that some ingredients work best without getting exposure to sunlight, I find the concept of day and night products a ‘marketing gimmick’ on the whole.

That said, ‘Kaya overnight brightening nourisher’ performs on my oily acne prone skin. I was afraid it might not suit my skin but it did. It does have a slight fragrance to it though. The product blends out easily and gets absorbed within a minute.

As for the brightening claims, they’re true. But only for as long as you’re making it a point to have a proper sleep cycle while using it. It’s the same case with eye creams.

Price: Rs.1590 for 50ml

L’oreal Hydrafresh anti shine moisturizer

You know the refreshing feeling when you indulge in a cold shower at the end of the hot day? With this moisturizer by your side, you can get the same feeling, at least for your face.

L’oreal Hydrafresh anti shine is a gel based moisturizer which gives a cooling sensation when applied. It’s a good lightweight moisturizer for oily summer skin. Even the fragrance gives a refreshing feel. The gel doesn’t leave any sticky residue behind and never caused breakouts on my oily skin.

Price: Rs.675 for 50ml

Kaya purifying nourisher

moisturizer for oily skin in winter

Kaya purifying nourisher is the perfect choice for you if you’re after a moisturizer for oily skin in winter. I haven’t reviewed it on blog but you can see the product in the pictures here.

It has a convenient pump packaging. I wish it was a transparent bottle as it helps figure out how much product is left. This one leaves a velvet-like finish immediately making skin look fresh. It absorbs quickly and I don’t need to apply another layer for the entire day in winter. It offers long-lasting moisture for oily skin in winter without making the skin look slick.

Price: Rs.680 for 50ml

L’oreal Paris Hydrafresh deep boosting essence

best lightweight moisturizer for oily summer skin

It’s funny how this moisturizer is targeted for people with dry skin when in fact, it lacks the moisturizing level to do so.

That said, I’m glad I bought it because it works amazing well for dehydrated, oily skin. It’s said to have a Triple Lock-in moisture of 3 Hyaluronic Acids and Pure French SPA water which blend together to moisturize your skin from deep within. These aren’t just some fancy words. I actually found these ingredients working for improving the condition of dry patches on my oily skin.  It’s definitely one of the best moisturizers for oily and acne prone skin in India.

The product has a watery gel like consistency and helps hydrate oily skin without a sticky finish. The moisture doesn’t sit on the surface but rather seeps into the skin. As with the other products mentioned here, it never clogged my pores and caused pimples on my skin.

Also, isn’t the packaging adorable?

Price: Rs.755 for 50ml

Once you have chosen a suitable moisturizer for your oily skin from this post on the “best moisturizers for oily and acne prone skin in India”, make sure you don’t make the skincare mistakes I made as a beginner. If the product suits you, stick with it for at least 2 months to see the results.

      Agree!
I used it 7-8 years back. I can’t remember why I didn’t like it a lot but that’s pretty much the reason why I didn’t include it in my top 10.
      Thanks Manisha ^_^

Have used 5 of these n love loreal hydra fresh essence the best. Another favorite is the tea tree mattifying lotion from TheBodyShop and also their tea tree blemish fade night lotion. They’re light and calming. But f9r a while now, have been religiously sticking to aloe vera gel 🙂

      Ooh! Awesome! 5! 😀
L’oreal hydra fresh range has receieved a lot of love from my friends too.
Oh, okie. Thanks! I’ll be adding ‘reader recommendations’ after sometime in this post. It’s a pity that tea tree doesn’t suit my skin. I always get reaction from it and therefore, have maintained a safe distance from it.
You mean pure aloe vera gel, Nafisa?
