When this range got launched, I was quite reluctant to spend money on it. The reason being most of the reviews weren’t in its favour. People complained about how it badly it smudges and how much of a pain it is to sharpen. But then I thought how could I not pounce upon newly launched colored eyeliners. See this post on why I love colored eyeliners and how they can break the monotony of everyday makeup.
So, I bought one! I purchased Maybelline lasting drama waterproof gel pencil ‘604, Glazed toffee’. Do I fall in the majority or minority?

My experience with Maybelline lasting drama waterproof gel pencil ‘604, Glazed Toffee’:
Packaging: It comes in the form of a color-coded pencil with a transparent cap. I like this kind of packaging because it helps distinguish the color easily without pulling open the cap. It has a sharpening mechanism which means there’s bound to be product wastage.
Texture: The formula is what dreams are made of! It glides on eyelids effortlessly with its buttery formula. You are allowed a few seconds to smudge it for a smokey eye look before it sets. Yes, it doubles up as a cream eyeshadow!
Pigmentation: It has an amazing color payoff. It goes opaque in one swipe only and doesn’t look uneven.
Finish: Maybelline waterproof gel pencil gives a matte finish.
Shade: Maybelline lasting drama waterproof gel pencil ‘604, Glazed toffee’ is a rich espresso brown. It makes wearing ombre eyes so easy because of the low-maintenance shade. I don’t care if the trend is out. It suits me a lot 😀
Staying power: I have super oily eyelids which bear a close resemblance to vaseline. I always powder my eyelids before putting an eyeliner. This thing does not transfer to my crease area at all. After 12 hours, I could see it faded just a bit from the inner corners. Even when I’m wearing contacts, it hasn’t made my eyes feel heavy or taut. I’ve very sensitive dry eyes prone to irritation.
With Lakme Blue eyeconic curling mascara
Is it really waterproof?
If an eyeliner is water-resistant, it means it can survive a few tears or splashes and if it’s water-proof, it will last even after being subjected to water submersion for long.
Is Maybelline waterproof gel pencil really your best friend when you’re crying a bucket of tears or lounging pool side? Yes, it is. I did this for 3 days:
After washing my face and powdering my eyelids, I applied it. I went for walk in morning, came back home and carried with my usual routine, washed my face using just water, went for an evening walk, came back home and then, removed it. After putting it through all this, I could see only a faint smudging from the corners. I also have a pic:
Is it really a pain to sharpen Maybelline lasting drama waterproof gel pencil ?
I understand how frustrating it can get trying to sharpen a pencil but seeing just wastage and no pointy tip. And I get why those people were complaining. The hard plastic of the pencil does make it difficult and it doesn’t sharpen with every sharpener I own. Just with the chambor one. Quite a bummer! But with that one, it sharpens just fine.
The texture and packaging is very much like the L’Oreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner.
Summary:
Maybelline Lasting Drama Waterproof Gel Pencil ‘604, Glazed Toffee’ is a gel pot formula translated into a pencil. It glides on eyelids effortlessly and even when there’s a heavy downpour, it won’t betray you. The only downside I can think of is that it could come with a sharpener.
