Lakme Sun Expert Ultra Matte Compact SPF40 Review, Swatches

Lakme sun expert ultra matte compact SPF40 review, swatches

I don’t want to start this review on a bitter note but just when I thought that Lakme was learning about the diversity in skin tones with its so-called nude re-invent collection (When exactly did purple become a nude shade?), it went on to introduce a new base launch- Lakme sun expert ultra matte compact SPF40, in only ONE shade!

That said, the product is actually quite good.

Product description:

Lakme Sun Expert launches the first-ever sunscreen in a revolutionary powder compact format- Lakme sun expert ultra matte compact SPF40 Designed for India’s hot and humid weather, it provides matte, non-sticky broad-spectrum sun protection. The high protection, matte sunscreen powder contains SPF 40 PA++ minerals that evenly spread on the skin. It forms a protective layer that blocks sun’s harmful UVA & UVB rays, so your skin is shielded from the damaging effects of sun-like tan, sunburn, dark spots, premature aging. It gives a matte, non-sticky after-feel and coverage for an even complexion.

Available in only one universal shade that is suitable for all skin tones. < This!

My experience with “ Lakme sun expert ultra matte compact SPF40″:

Begin I start with the review, I want to tell you all that my intention behind buying it was to simply mattify my sunscreen and not use it as a sunscreen alone.

Packaging: The compact comes in a bright yellow flip-flop case with a mirror attached inside (Thank you!). I like that the sponge and the powder are separated  by a thin film and I plan on keeping it that way. It feels light-weight but I wouldn’t label it travel-friendly.

I’m not a fan of the sponge as I need to fold it to use it on my under-eye area and also, because these kinds tend to lose their shape after some washes.

Texture: The powder is smooth, easily blendable and has an instant mattifying effect on the skin. I was surprised by how well it dialled down the look of my pores and didn’t emphasize minor dry patches on my cheeks (Tap instead of swiping).

It also has a mild citrusy scent. Thankfully, the scent doesn’t linger once applied on the skin.

Shade: Lakme sun expert ultra matte compact SPF40 has a yellowish tint to it which helps brighten the skin’s complexion without giving a white cast on my NC30 skin tone. Also, don’t worry about it altering the color of your foundation as the tint isn’t strong.

I doubt if the shade will suit anyone with NC40 skin tone or above.

Coverage: You can forget about it if you are planning to use this alone for coverage as it’s light. I have nowhere near perfect skin but I still don’t mind using it alone (after applying sunscreen) on most days. It all boils down to your preference.

Staying power: Extreme summers are yet to arrive in Delhi but as of now, I don’t feel the need to touch-up frequently as the mattifying effect lasts for 4-5 hours easily on my oily skin. Even outdoors!

I doubt that the performance will be the same in the coming scorching months ahead but then I like to keep my expectations realistic for my super oily skin in 40 °C weather.

Summary:

Lakme sun expert ultra matte compact SPF40 comes in a handy pact which allows for easy touch-ups on the go. It provides the skin with a matte finish and the effect lasts for 4-5 hours in this weather. I also like how it blurs the size of my pores a bit and brightens up my skin’s complexion.

The major disappointing part is that it comes in one shade.
