Best face powders for oily acne prone skin- My top 5!

The Best face powders for oily acne prone skin- My top 5!

This post has been long due. Not because of my procrastination ability this time but because I would always keep dropping or adding an option. I realized that could go for a lifetime and therefore, finally came up with this post on best face powders for oily acne prone skin which includes my top 5!

Now, please don’t set unrealistic expectations from a compact powder/loose powder. It won’t keep your oily skin oil-free all day long. But a good one will definitely extend the time by which you find your skin getting oily. In my case, I know if I’m taking more time reaching for an oil blotting sheet, the new product is working. Or maybe it’s the awesome mausam!

Here’s my list of powder recommendations for oily skin. As always, all of these products have been used and tested by me for a good amount of time.

Innisfree No sebum mineral powder

This has to be the best loose powder for oily skin in India. Innisfree claims that it can be used as a dry shampoo too. I’m so happy to say that it works very well in controlling oil. On days I wear it, I reach for my oil blotting sheets maybe once or twice. It also dials down the size of the pores by a little margin. Me likey!

The powder is finely milled too. Also, it doesn’t give a horrible flashback. I do get some white cast but only if I take my picture at a very close distance (arm’s length-selfie!).

Price in India: Rs.550

Lakme sun Expert SPF40 compact

I never thought this compact would make to my top 5 face powders but talk about changing times! Not so much for the dusky beauties though as the brand refuses to introduce shades for deep skin tones.

But if you have a skin tone up to NC40, give this one a try. I love the subtle yellowish tint Lakme sun expert SPF40 compact has to brighten up my face. The powder goes on smooth and offers a matte finish. Happy that it gave me no breakouts.

Price in India: Rs.210

Laura Mercier loose setting powder

Now, now, now! I know this is a super expensive powder but I find this to be the best loose powder for dry skin as well as the best setting powder for oily skin. The velvety texture is something which I haven’t come across in any other product. The price tag is a luxury but thankfully, the texture is too!

On rare days I’m opting for a full coverage makeup, every layer added gives a heavy look. That gets multiplied if I decide to go with a compact powder. So, what I do is bake my face using this one (Lightly. Very lightly) and follow up with a finishing spray. The result is beyond satisfactory. It has never made me foundation look cakey.

It also covers redness quite well and offers a light coverage. I have used it even on my dry skin without it emphasizing any dryness. It’s one of those beautiful powders that disguises uneven skin texture and doesn’t lend that made-up look.

L’oreal mat magique all in one transforming powder

This is one compact which works for all skin types. I find it as one of the best face powders for oily acne prone skin in India, especially for the price it comes atIt’s enriched with volcanic perlite minerals to absorb the oil or sebum secretion on the face. It controls oil decently well without giving face that dull matte look. The natural finish and smooth texture makes it ideal even for setting under eye concealer without getting that heavy look.

Many times, I set my base using a loose powder and then, follow up with it. Just make sure to get your right shade. You can read my best tips on how to shop at makeup counters to make it easier.

Right now, I have two: One to be used with a brush and the other to be used with a damp sponge. Experiments.

Price in India: Rs.399

Fenty Beauty Invisimatte blotting powder

Fenty Beauty invisimatte blotting powder is basically Innisfree no sebum mineral powder in a compact form, with a slight lilac undertone. At least for me. You can layer it twice but it still won’t look cakey. Best, it’s hard to detect on your face! I apply it(after loose powder) just before I’m about to use a setting spray. I, especially, love using it on my under eye area to smoothen the look.

I don’t like the blotting pad though as it’s very thin.

It’s definitely not a must-try for the price it comes at unlike the Laura Mercier one but I keep going back to it. I’ve also used it on my bare face a lot of times and like how well it controls oil along with making my skin look better without any coverage!

Price: Rs.2,118 ($32)

How I like to use face powders:

With loose powders, my most preferred form is applying with a damp sponge. The effect is neat and my makeup stays locked in place for hours.

With compact powders, it’s either puff or brush. Depends.

What I do is apply loose powder using a damp sponge at home and then, using a compact for touch-ups.
