A brief introduction about ‘Micellar water’ before I start with the review:

Thanks to micellar water, you can remove makeup and leave your skin clean without going for a rinse. Yes, the perfect product for lazy girls. Some like to use it to remove their light makeup on a daily use, some like to use it as a toner after their cleansing routine and some (like me) use it to correct their makeup mistakes.

Moving on..

My first micellar water was from the brand ‘Bioderma’ and my main reason behind purchasing it was to correct my eye makeup mistakes or to remove the leftover kajal in morning. Sometimes, to correct my patchy foundation on cheeks and re-do it. Also, to go from an AM to PM look without washing my face.

That’s all.

 I never reached for it at the end of the day to take off my makeup. I’m too dependent on my cleansing oils for that job. Plus, the whole hold it, pour some on cotton, swipe on face x 3 times is too much for me now when I’m hooked to cleansing oils.

 It’s not before I went for a camping trip last year that I relied on it for a whole day. The water was too cold and with a light layer of makeup for the entire day, I used just this micellar water from Garnier to do the job, followed up with a wet wipe and slept without even rinsing my face with water. I was scared that it might cause breakouts on my skin but nothing of that sort happened.

But for those looking at this product as a complete “makeup remover” package, here are my thoughts on it:

– As you can see, Garnier skin naturals micellar cleansing bi phase water comes in a see-through packaging which lets you know how much product is remaining.

– Since it is a bi phase water, you’re supposed to shake it before using it. Also, it isn’t fragrance free.

– One thing I don’t get about this product is that it has different target customers in different countries. For instance, I saw the exact same bottle being sold online in a different country that said “For dry and sensitive skin.” Here, it says “For all skin types” which actually I find incorrect. You will soon find out why.

– As for its makeup removal capabilities, it takes off light- low medium coverage makeup in 1-2 swipes completely. As for waterproof base makeup, I needed 3 swipes. With waterproof eyeliners, it’s again easy. But when it comes to removing waterproof or even long-wearing mascara, it takes a lot of efforts and there’s still some residue left behind. Not impressive.

– After removing makeup, it leaves a very slight oily layer on face. This was the very reason I followed up with a wet wipe during my camping trip as it felt like it might cause breakouts.

– It doesn’t leave my combination skin feeling dry.

– Did it sting my eyes when I used it to remove kajal on my waterline? Nope.

– If you have oily skin, you most definitely will require to follow up with a cleanser to take care of the residue. Yes, it does negate the whole purpose of using a micellar water. But if you want a good all-rounder makeup remover that’s also budget-friendly, try this one.

With Maybelline micellar water, I could actually afford to use just it on some days to remove my light makeup without washing my face with water. I experienced no breakouts. But it’s also expensive at Rs.399 for just Rs.95ml. This one costs just Rs.125 for 225ml.

The Maybelline total express eye and lip makeup remover works better than Garnier skin naturals micellar cleansing bi phase water when it comes to removing waterproof mascara.

Will I be re-purchasing it?

Will I be saying goodbye to Maybelline micellar water and Maybelline eye and lip makeup remover?

I don’t think so. Had it been quick at removing mascara, I would have re-purchased it.

Summary:

Garnier skin naturals micellar cleansing bi phase water is an amazing option if you want a good all-rounder makeup remover that is also budget-friendly and don’t mind making some extra efforts when it coming to removing mascara. That said, it also leaves a very light oily layer and therefore, it would be better if you follow up with a cleanser to avoid breakouts. Also, I wouldn’t call it a CLASSIC micellar water.
