Smokey eye for beginners? Here’s how

Sometime back, I showed how to create easy smokey eyes using eyeliner. In this tutorial for smokey eye for beginners, I have used only a single eyeshadow. There are very low chances of you messing up with this smokey eye. The best part about this eye makeup is that it’s classic and daytime appropriate.

Products needed:

Brown eyeshadow

Black eyeliner/kohl

Mascara

Eye primer

Powder

Brushes- Eyeshadow applicator brush, Smudger brush and eyeshadow blending brush

Here’s how to pull of sexy smokey eyes without looking like you spent an eternity doing them:

Step 1: Prep you eyes with an eye primer to prevent creasing.

Step 2: You can also apply foundation to even out the skin tone of your eyelids. Powder your eyelids.

Step 3: Line your upper lashes with an eyeliner/kohl that a creamy yet smudge-proof texture. It doesn’t have to be neat as you will smudge it.

Step 4: Taking a stiff smudger brush, start smudging that line. Only touch the edges of the line. Now, slowly move the brush up. Don’t go past the crease line.

Step 5: Apply a dark brown eyeshadow all over your lid up to the crease line with a flat eyeshadow brush/sponge applicator. Don’t take the color all the way up to the eyebrow.

As I have small eyes, I didn’t apply it in the inner corner.

Step 6: Take a blending brush and buff the harsh edges properly. Move your brush from left to right (in short strokes) until you can’t see the edges. Also, I focus on building the color on the outer corner.

Step 7:  Repeat the 4th step but don’t take your brush up. I demonstrated this in my tutorial on here.

If you’re wondering why I did this step earlier, it’s because I wanted to intensify the look and also, to make it last longer on my super oily eyelids. Creating a smokey eye and maintaining its wear-time throughout the day are two different things.

Step 8: Apply the same eyeshadow on your lower lash line and blend it.

Step 9: Use a liquid eyeliner to draw a thin line so as to create the effect of a thicker lash line and define the shape of your eyes.

Step 10: Apply the same eyeliner/kohl on your lower waterline without going all the way inside. This prevents small eyes from looking smaller. Smudge it.

Step 11: Apply mascara.

Done!

Important:

– If you’ll be wearing this look for more than 4-5 hours, it’s best to keep the eyeshadow in your purse. Yes, let’s be real! If there’s some creasing, just smoothen the line using your finger, blot and pat the eyeshadow where it has faded.

– If you think smokey eyes make you look tired, you may not be concealing your dark circles properly or going overboard with blending. You can also skip applying anything on your waterline and lower lash line. I mostly apply a brown eyeshadow with an angled brush on my lower lash line.

– Hold a tissue at the outer corner of your eye so that the fall out doesn’t disturb your makeup.

– You can use this technique with different colors.
