My experience with Maybelline super stay 24 color lip color ‘Keep up the flame’:

It comes in a dual ended tube. On one side, you’ll find the clear balm and on the other side, you’ll find the lip color. The packaging is neat and simple. The color name is mentioned at the bottom of the tube. You can find the ingredients list and expiry date on the outer case.

Maybelline super stay 24 color lip color has a heavily-pigmented liquid formula, which means it offers an opaque coverage. It will saturate your lips in the first swipe itself. The texture is creamy at first which makes coating the lips part easy. But it also dries fast which leaves you with little time to correct your application mistakes. After a minute or so, you will find that it turns completely into a matte finish. Surprisingly, it doesn’t feel heavy!

Please note that it’s only after roughly 5 minutes that it dries completely. So, don’t rub and roll your lips together as initially, the formula is sticky( I think it’s the micro-flex technology o_O). It will make your application look patchy.

It will take a little practice to figure out how much product you need to get your desired consistency but the results will be worth it.

Coming to the staying power, it’s amazing! It is a waterproof lip color. I have had so many drinks with it on my lips and never did I find it transferring. Most of the times, I find myself wiping the color off the glass using a tissue. But not with this! It stayed really well even with me gulping down many snacks and desserts. I get staying power similar to when I use Kryolan lip seal.

So, where exactly is it flawed?

The formula breaks down once you start having oil-based food. A few bites won’t hurt much, but anything more than that and you will have to make your way to the washroom immediately to touch it up.

What makes it high-maintenance?

The “touch-up” part makes it high-maintenance. You can’t touch it up like a regular lipstick. Even if you don’t consume oil based food, the color will start to wear off after some 7-8 hours and in a very noticeable way! Please refer to the image below:

How I apply it: I apply a moisturizing lip balm and let it sink into my lips for a few minutes. I blot it with a tissue paper and then, apply this liquid lip color starting from the centre of the lips. If I happen to make a mistake, I use a cotton bud and roll it in some cleansing oil to remove the stain. Then, I may or may not top it with the clear balm.

How I remove this long stay lipstick: I put cleansing oil on my lips with the help of a cotton ball and let it stay for a minute. This breaks down the stubborn formula and helps in removing it easily. You can also use baby oil/vaseline.

Summary:

Maybelline super stay 24 color lipcolor ‘Keep up the flame’ is a rich red which actually lasts long without even the slightest smudge. It’s water-proof, food-friendly but you may want to maintain distance from oil-based food. If you are going to purchase it, just know that it’s also high-maintenance. So far, this is the most long stay liquid lip color in my vanity.
