I am an early riser and early sleeper. But on Wednesday, I felt super bored and decided to do something. I opened my closet and thought of re-arranging my stuff. But I couldn’t do that as I knew it would take up 5-6 hours and I wouldn’t sleep before I got finished with it. I thought of taking out things from my “things only to be seen and not used” drawer and staring at them. I didn’t wanted that either.
Then a heart-wrenching thought passed through my mind which had been doing rounds since a month or so. I wanted to ignore that recurring thought but this time I just couldn’t. I decided to be strong and take charge of that situation.
I took out my emergency goodies kit and devoured two pieces of my favourite chocolate. I decided to begin with the operation!
The operation was to break up i.e. dump all the expired/finished lipsticks lying in my cupboard. I have an excel sheet wherein I list the expiry date of skincare/makeup/haircare stuff I buy. I browsed through the list and found out that there were a total of 28 lipsticks which I needed to get away from. Now, normally I don’t go by expiry dates but there were some that were over 5 years old and they smelled quite funny.
I searched for them from my collection and there.. I held them in hands one by one and threw them one last loving glance.. I thanked them for making me look gorgeous and kissed them goodbye. I didn’t wanted to make it long as the longer it would be, the harder it would get for me to bid them au revoir.
I kept them in a box and..and.. and I placed them near.. near the bin.
When I did THIS post, I mentioned how I couldn’t bring myself to throw finished/expired lipsticks. This time I did!
But I am NEVER EVER going to do this again! I will put them in a separate box but I am never throwing old lipsticks again. What I did still haunts me! I have to say that there was a constant battle going on in my head over something which I have been trying to incorporate in my life. But I guess when it comes to lipstick, there is no such thing as too much. No such thing!
Now it’s your turn to tell me! Have you ever dumped old lipsticks? Please tell me you have! How was it?
If I have about 1 or 2 months tog o for the expiration, I give them to my 'makeup loving' maid…I let her enjoy them & then tell her to discard them after a month or 2. I also regularly makeup swap with blogger friends, so that my collection gets used & I on the other hand get to use & enjoy someone else's collection 🙂 Needless to say, we sanitize products before giving them & after we rcv them 🙂 I totally agree with your point…there is NO SUCH THING as too many lipsticks 😉 Great post…love your narration!! <3
When I saw the first picture, I said 'omg is this a haul?' haha I was so confused! Of course I throw away lipsticks, broken ones, expired ones, lipsticks I don't even use anymore etc. so you are not alone in this, don't feel bad! 🙂

I know how it feels, long back even I threw out bunch of expired items and I coudnot sleep. No I dont do that anymore, only if they grow fur I throw them. I keep them seperatly in a box 🙂
I sooo understand your pain! Just like u, am into pretty packaging too and that makes it all the more harder to throw it out even if the product inside has expired. So I just put expired products in boxes and stow them away so that I don't use them. Once in a while, I take them out to admire and reminisce 😛
Oh Heena.. you have an excel sheet.. You are amazing I tell you.. I do not have these many lipsticks first of all, but yes once expired I chuck them. I cannot take any risk…
