The Golden Kela awards are awarded to those Bollywood celebrities who deliver the worst performances in Hindi Cinema each year. So, I thought why leave the makeup products behind here! The only difference being that is not exactly a celebration!
These don’t include my precious collectible products which I buy with the sole intention of staring at their beauty *_*
Moving on, most of the times I buy products after going through their reviews online and researching on them a bit more. But even then there are chances that a beauty product which a blogger likes isn’t up to my liking and vice-versa. Then there are those times when the newly launched or “over-hyped” bug bites me. And not to forget mentioning those times when the packaging of products hypnotise me and lure me into taking them home. Sigh!
Anyhow, these are the 12 products I really wish I never bought because they perform totally different from what the company claims:
1) Avon Simple Pretty Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner: It comes packed in a transparent glass bottle with a long handle. The bristles are packed tightly but they are quite less in number. This makes the application a task in itself. Also, see the picture wherein one bristle is longer than all. I had to cut it. The shade is definitely jet black. Ensure to shake it well before use. Regarding staying power, it stays only for around 4 hours after which it starts to fade and smudge from the outer corners. Eeks! I can’t even imagine going out with it on my super oily eyelids in these scorching summers! Not even winters!
2) Tangle Teezer: Yes! It works for many but for me, not at all! Had it not been for the adorable design, I would have straight away dumped it in the bin. And I bought a hair brush which is just like my regular hair paddle brush for a whopping Rs.1100!
3) John Frieda Liquid Shine Illuminating Shampoo and Conditioner: There’s only conditioner in this picture and not shampoo. That’s because only when I threw the shampoo in the bin, did this post idea strike in my head. So I kept the conditioner until the photo session. I mentioned about them HERE too. They make my dry hair drier and like Jharhoo. The cost of both is Rs.470 each!!!
4) Fair and Lovely BB Cream: I’m sure they meant “Bewkoof-Banao” cream” (as their ads are when a father loves his daughter more when she gets fair or when a girl secures a job owing to her light skin tone. Wow!). I mentioned about it HERE. It’s not for oily, dry, combination or normal skin type. It’s not even for skin type that is dry and oily at the same time. I hope I haven’t left any skin type. Let me know if I have.
5) Lakmè 9 to5 Instant Glow Creme: The only instant effect it provides is a whitening cast on my face! Read more about it HERE.
6) Lakme Absolute Plump and Shine Lipglosses: These are some rarely found breeds in lipglosses. They emphasize lip lines! Read my review on them HERE. It’s a pity because the shades are stunning!
7) Maybelline The Colossal Liner: I never thought this day would come but sadly it has! Maybelline introduced a liner which doesn’t dries and smudges easily. Read my review on it HERE. The irony is I can’t live without their hyperglossy liquid eyeliners!
8) Oriflame Very Me Lip Crayon: Because it’s too sticky!
9) L’oreal Paris Super Liner Gelmatic Pen “Blue Force’: The pigmentation has worn down and its application was a tough task from the very beginning. Goodbye! Review HERE. I have to update its rating now.
10) NYX Slim Eye Pencils: They just don’t dry!
Don’t forget to mention your list of products in the comments below which deserve a kela award! Even if they have got a nice rating on my blog!
And, I missed my space! Feels so good being back! 😀

Hi Heena, nice to see your post 🙂 You sound so frustrated & I completely understand! Even I think the Lakme Insta Glow cream is completely useless! And I'll definitely stay away from rest of the products you mentioned except…The tangle teezer was useless for me when I initially bought it but a year later it has become indispensible to me! But it certainly is overpriced

Hey Heena.. Good to see you back and what a post!!
I haven't tried most of the products here.. Means money saved!! But I agree on Maybelline colossal liner .. I so wish it was waterproof bcz it smudges so bad on a sweaty summer day…
Also for tangle tweezers did u try teasing ur hair for adding volume?? I saw some instagram videos on this .. And it seems to do a good job but for 1100.. Its not a magic wand for sure … 😣

About Time, Lana! I have never been into sugar coating reviews on my blog. And that's how I am in my real life too. These are just a few products I have listed here out of my big list. Some misses are okay but companies these days are launching a multitude of products with gibberish claims! I get mails from some readers who want to know about my experience with some newly launched products. If I can, I buy them and tell them the truth. And they mail me about their sad experiences too. When a college going girl who can't afford to spend beyond Rs.200 on makeup per month, it is real frustrating to read about their disappointments.
My blog is solely for me and my readers to benefit from. I know the efforts that go behind a single post put here and mincing words for leaving a space that it might work for some even though knowing there isn't any, isn't something I want to do.
Oh! I have been testing Tangle Teezer Since 3 Months With No Extra-Ordinary Results 🙁 When did you start seeing results?

i have been thinking of those nyx eye liners…definitely not getting them now!

And this is I why I love your blog, Heena!
There is a sea of beauty blogs today singing praises for just every product out there! To do this kind of post, i must say it's very brave. I too dislike that Maybelline the colossal liner. It smudges so bad and among the dozen of reviews i read about it on blogs, yours was the second one which featured a genuine review. Tangle Teezer and Fair n Lovely BB Cream didn't work for me too. I feel bad for having wasted my money over them.
I have bought so many products going by your reviews and loved them. The only one which hasn't worked for me is that Sara Anti-tan product which you reviewed recently and liked a lot. I don't know why.. but it didn't. I guess i should use sunscreen more religiously.
Sorry for such a long comment but this is my first time n I think this post inspired me to..hehe! Keep more of such posts coming.. it's rare to see such kinds
So good to see you back.. I know i don't comment but I was checking your blog everyday to see your post.. Your photographs coupled with your cute write-ups and creative posts keep making me come back to your blog.

Keep it up Heena ^_^ Your blog is one of my favorites & not just for these kind of posts!
As for the Tangle Teezer, it depends on hair type. Recently my hair has become unmangeable (not cut since 18 months) and gets into knots every hour. TT combs though them effortlessly & keeps them knot-free for hours. And It works well only when I use a serum (I use one after my hair wash). When I had manageable hair(& didn't use serum), it did not work for me ! Hope this helps xx

Super post as always Heens. Love ur honesty. But am surprised u dint like Tangle Teezer. I dont hav unmanageable hair to begin with n i bought it out of sheer curiosity (not to mention d irresistible cuteness). Ive found it to work like magic n i even recommended it to a friend who now cant live widout it!
Anyways, do keep writing. Great to read ur posts 🙂

You bought a Tangle Teezer! ROFL! Nah. My 25 Rupess large toothed comb works well for me, provided, I use a bit of serum.
I agree with you on most of the products. When Lakme's Absolute Plump and Shine was released, I had swatched in in the store and they didn't seem really worth the price-tag they out on it and I came back wondering what the hype was about. But well, Maybelline's Colossal liner is doing a good job for me. It has been quite a few months and mine seems to be working fine even on top of powder shadows.
Oh, I would give a Golden Kela to Maybelline's Colorsensational Lipsticks. Every color I had, grew fungus and the horrible large bristly-hairy ones and I kept wondering if they were meant to culture mushrooms at home!
Heena says
Yea..Better You Skip Them!

Hehe.. That's Really Sweet of You, Poulami! 🙂
Umm.. yea.. I guess you should use sunscreen more religiously to see proper effects.
I Love Reading Long Comments! Keep them coming! ^_^
